This is a paper play page -, something to keep the children busy while Mother cooked the feast. It also gave the children something to contribute to the fun at the table. Each of the hinged nuts had a riddle or connundrum to be pasted inside the "nut-shaped booklets" The riddles are very similar to what might be found in a Christmas Cracker - a little hokey but fun.The artist who created this page was Lou Eleanor Colby. This page was originaly published in The Delineator, November 1910This page would make a fun Thanksgiving card or invitation. The actual size of the digital image is 3150 by 4500 pixels - a very large image that will print out to a full page size with great clarity and detail or could be resized to create cards. It is available at digitalpaperdolls for $1.50 and will be digitally delivered within 24 hours of placing your order - no S/H costs and Paypal shopping cart on site.Thursday, November 11, 2010

Back to School

There are not all that many back to school themed paper doll pages. One of the nicest is the September page by Berta and Elmer Hader entitled This is the way Ruth goes to School.
Originally published September 1924 in the Good Housekeeping Magazine. Ruth is one of a series of 12 Girl of the Month pages that the Haders created.
I am constantly amazed at the art that went in to these vintage paper doll pages. This one is frameable as a delightful picture for the wall of a child's room. It also has some wonderful collage or scrapbooking design components.
